A collection of powerful photos from The Associated Press documenting the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and their aftermath will go on display on the 20th anniversary of 9/11 at the Huntsville Museum of Art in Huntsville, Alabama.

“ 9/11 and Beyond: Photos from The Associated Press ” features 50 AP photographs that look back at the terrorist attacks and the construction, destruction and rebirth of the World Trade Center complex in New York.

From AP photographer Richard Drew’s iconic “Falling Man” photo to gripping images of smoke-filled skies, debris-covered streets and fleeing pedestrians, the collection captures the tragedy of the day and the heroic rescue efforts that followed.

The selected images show how the destruction of the twin towers radically altered the New York skyline – destroying the two columns of glass and steel that over the years had come to embody the city itself – and the rebuilding of lower Manhattan.

“9/11 and Beyond: Photos from The Associated Press” runs through Nov. 28, 2021 at the Huntsville museum. AP published the book “September 11: The 9/11 Story, Aftermath and Legacy,” a comprehensive look at the terrorist attacks as told through stories and photographs from the AP archives, in August.
